Environmental Protection Officer

Examples of Essential Duties:
•Provides support to the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) regarding development impacts, regulatory authority and procedures;
•Reviews environmental permit applications;
•Provides land use information to developers, homeowners and consultants;
•Advises on the development of land use plans and regulatory standards;
•Advises the Town and others on land use matters relating to environmental protection;
•Develops recommendations on wetland permit requests;
•Assists in review and analysis of proposed projects for consistency with policies, statutes and environmental impact;
•Performs reviews and field inspections to evaluate the impact of development plans pursuant to environmental regulations;
•Conducts site investigations;
•Assists in drafting new Inland Wetland and Watercourses Regulations to be consistent with State statutes;
•Assists in developing and implementing environmental and educational programs;
•Assists in developing departmental, regional and local environmental plans and programs;
•Assists in formulating policy options;
•Assists in preparing environmental impact statements and recommendations for corrective actions and/or alternatives;
•Assists in providing technical consultation to local and regional officials and the public;
•Assists in research, collection and analysis of resources, data and educational materials;
•May introduce expert testimony at public hearings, if appropriate, regarding wetland impacts;
•May assist in preparing publications and guidelines on environmental protection, natural resource education and development issues;
•May serve as department representative on regulatory and advisory boards and/or committees; and
•Performs related duties as required.
